Finding My Running Mojo

Last Tuesday I went out of my comfort zone and met a local fitblogger for dinner. I was extremely nervous and considering canceling. I mean, what if she didn’t like me…what if she thought I was lame….what if….what if. I blame this feeling on the many years I didn’t feel worthy enough of friends…but that’s a whole other blog. :)

After texting B-Fry from the Walmart parking lot (I was killing time) that I was going to vomit, he told me I’d be fine. And I bucked up and went. While walking into Panera, there was a rather creepy guy sitting outside, and the thought crossed my mind that maybe that was the blogger (not this girl) and it was all a mean joke. (Gosh….how lame am I to have these thoughts? Lol) Luckily, that guy completely ignored me and I went inside. After a few minutes, Stephanie walked in! My jitters subsided and we had a great time talking and hanging out.

Stephanie is pretty awesome and she has done some pretty awesome athletic things. (She’s done Ragbrai, half marathons, and she currently training for a triathlon!) In other words, she’s pretty badass. :) Anyways, as we were talking about all this she was talking about running. And for some reason all this talk inspired me to go on a run that night after meeting with her.

Which in turn has turned in to a few more runs and has helped me discover that I love running in the morning before work! Sunday and Monday I ran about a mile and this morning I ran TWO freaking miles! Ya, I felt like a rockstar!

Badass!

Badass!

Now, I really have a love/hate relationship with running. Mostly the hate has been because I tend to have issues with my IT band, but I’ve been taking care this time around. I’m not pushing myself super hard and there’s plenty of stretching! I won’t be running 13.1 miles anytime soon, but maybe I’ll get to run my first official 5k!

Thanks Stephanie for helping me find my running mojo!

Update!

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, then you probably saw the many posts begging you to watch My Aha Moment video. But, incase you don’t follow me on those social networks, then here’s the video!

I’m pretty freaking proud of it! I was super nervous leading up to the interview, but I totally nailed it! It really is an awesome video and I’m so glad I got the opportunity to do it!

Calorie counting is still going awesomely well. I was down another 2lbs last week, so that’s a total of 5 so far. Having the My Fitness Pal app on my phone is a great tool. It is so easy to track my food. Gotta love technology!

I am lacking in the exercise portion again. It’s crazy how I can do so awesomely well for a while, then slack off again. B-Fry and I did go on a great bike ride on Saturday. It got me excited about biking again. We’re even going on another today after we visit our local farmers market. I’m excited!

Ooo…my sister and I are going to start training for a 5k next week too. She recently found out that she had broken a vertebrae in her back 7-10 years ago and the chiro told her that strengthening her core and getting active would help her from having horrible back issues later in life. So, she’s on a mission to become healthier. She mentioned wanting to start running, so I told her I’d train for a 5k with her.

It’s going to be a lot of fun, even though we won’t be running together technically. It will be nice to have someone to encourage and to have someone encourage me! Cannot wait to start!!

I’m going to pair this running program with some strength training and yoga. And LOTS of foam rolling. I don’t want my IT band to scream at me like it did the last time I really got into running. I’m not going to let it defeat me this time! I will win! :)

This is going to be great!

What exciting things are going on in your world?

All Around Awesomeness

I’m still waiting for the B-Fry to email me pics from our time in Chicago, so my extensive recap will have to wait.

Since getting home from Chicago, I’ve been having a great week on plan. :o ) The 3lb gain I had on Tuesday really kicked my butt into gear.

I went to the grocery store and stocked up on all kinds of yummy foods. (If you shop at Walmart, look for the chicken sausages next to the hot dogs. They’re amazingly delicious. The B-Fry and I have tried them all, our favorite being the monteray jack and habenaro. Soooo good!!) It’s nice to actually have things around to cook instead of going out to eat all the time.

Speaking of cooking I tried out a new recipe. Cross that off my goal list! I made Hungry Girl’s Bacon Ranch Slaw. It was so good! Wanted leftovers, but my brother’s cat decided to knock the rest of it off the table and all over the dining room floor. Haha. Luckily it was a super easy recipe that I will be making again. It was a hit with the B-Fry and my brother’s girlfriend. I love it when recipes are a win!

Besides eating well, I also went on a great run Friday morning. I decided to change my goal of ‘Do 30 Day Shred 3 Day A Week’ to Get 30+ Mins of Activity in 3xs a Week. It’s more realistic. Anyways, I ran 2 miles without any issues! No ankle issues, no IT band issues, and no mental issues. It felt so damn good! I’ll be going for a repeat today!

I’ve also been successful with the eating out I did twice this week. On Friday I went out with the B-Fry and his parents to Buffalo Wild Wings. I allotted enough points for naked tenders and some buffalo chips. Rather delicious! Then last night the B-Fry and I were both hungry and nothing at my apartment sounded good. So we went to HyVee and while he got Chinese (YUM!) I headed to their very yummy looking salad bar and made myself a huge plate of salad and another plate of fresh fruit. Good gosh was it delicious! I believe we’ll be going there again when we don’t feel like cooking. :o )

I’m proud of myself for grabbing the reigns of this wagon and going in the right direction.

It feels good!

What have you done well lately?
