Often I complain about how there is nothing going on in the Quad Cities unless you want to go to the bar. Well, this past week I was proved wrong! With a little bit of research and some luck, I had a week packed full of fun! There was free fitness, a musical, and a fun craft class.
I can’t remember exactly how I found out about this free bootcamp class, but I know it was found on Facebook. I decided to check it out since it was free and who doesn’t love free workouts? After work on Tuesday I headed down to the riverfront and waited for the others to show up.
I was nervous because 1) I didn’t know anyone else and 2) the term ‘bootcamp’ scared me. I had no idea what I was getting into and in true Brooke fashion I expected the worst. Luckily, it wasn’t even half as bad as I thought it would be.
The girl running the workout was nice and so was everyone else who showed up.
The workout wasn’t super extreme either. Pretty much everyone participating seemed to be a beginner, so it was pretty low impact stuff. I was expecting (and kind of hoping) for something a bit more difficult to push myself in other ways I haven’t before. Alas, it was still a good workout!
If you’re in the Quad Cities and interested in joining in, look for the Quad city Fit camp group on Facebook. Lisa is the coordinator and usually posts where it’s going to be. She said she will be doing them every Tuesday and Friday evening through the month of June!
Thursday my mom and I attended a class on making button rings at a cute little shop in the East Village of Davenport. The Mint Green Boutique is a great store that features handmade goods from local artists along with some cute vintage clothing. I follow them on Facebook and saw they were putting on a make & take craft event.
We had a lot of fun making some adorable rings and getting creative! Next month they will be having a make & take featuring button earrings! You can follow them on their Facebook page here: The Mint Green Boutique to see when it will be.
Friday night, Mr. B and I went and saw his cousin play Rosie in the musical Cabaret. Mr. B wasn’t too thrilled to go, but I love me some musicals, so I was rather excited. The performance was great and Stacy did an amazing job playing Rosie! Seeing it also makes me want to get back into singing. It has been YEARS since I’ve been on a stage (unless you count karaoke). There are a few shows this coming weekend too, I highly recommend it if you are looking for a fun date night!
While waiting for bootcamp to start on Tuesday, I picked up a local magazine to read to pass the time. Doing so brought me to finding out about Radish’s Healthy Living Fair.
On Saturday I got up early and did something I never thought I would do in a million years. As part of the fair they were offering a free yoga class. I love yoga, but have never attended a class. So, I nervously stepped out of my comfort zone and joined the class….on stage….in front of people.
As the class began and went on, I didn’t even think about the fact that I was doing downward dog on a stage. It was an awesome experience and have decided that I really want to attend yoga classes in the future. The class was put on by Jeani from the Davenport School Of Yoga. She was great and made my first official class super enjoyable! She also trains people to be instructors, which I chatted with her about looking into becoming one. I am jobless in a week and all, got to figure something out. There’s actually been a lot of talk in the Not On A Diet household about what the future holds for me. I plan on talking about it all soon!
This is the face of a girl who does things she has never done before! Today I took my first yoga class on a stage in front of people. Not only has this journey brought me a healthy body, it has brought me confidence that I never once had. This journey is totally worth it. Don’t let anything stand in your way to begin yours! ♥
It is oh so very true, before losing this weight I would have never imagined doing things like that. It’s amazing the feeling I have that I can do anything and take on the world.
Saturday night Mr. B and I got all fancy and attended a wedding reception. I have been waiting to rock this skirt for quite some time now. I must say we looked damn good together! (How in the world did I snag such a hottie?!)
This past week was a fun one filled with local going ons. I loved being able to find fun things to do for free or close to free. All I had to do was do a little research. I cannot wait to see what else I can find!
Are you a local (Quad Cities) person? If so, any exciting things coming up that I should do?
How was your week last week?
