Bump Update: Week 36

How far along? We will officially be 37 weeks tomorrow. I think time has flown by up until this last week. Now I feel like it is taking forever.

Maternity clothes? Anything that doesn’t include pants is my current preference. Unless they’re yoga pants, I’ll never be sick of those. The skirt in the above picture has gotten a ton of use lately. So comfortable!

Sleep? Well, it is currently 4:00am as I’m writing this blog post. So, today sleep isn’t the best. I’ve actually been sleeping pretty well and often. Naps are glorious!

Best moment this week? We had our last childbirth class on Sunday! We passed and they’re going to let us leave the hospital with our baby! 😉 While it wasn’t the most fun to attend class on a Sunday afternoon, I’m really glad we did. All the little tips and tricks we learned on how to cope with labor will really be useful when the time comes!

Symptoms? I’m currently never cool enough. I have the air conditioning pretty much on full blast wherever I may be. I’m also tired often and find it hard to get comfortable with this bump in front.

Food cravings? I cannot get enough smoothies lately! I think I’ve had one for breakfast every day the last 2-3 weeks. My favorite combo lately is almond milk, oatmeal, banana, cinnamon, & vanilla protein powder. So tasty! Also, I love anything sweet. Ice cream….popsicles….candy…..I’m not too picky.

Food aversions? None that I can think of. I haven’t had too many of those throughout my pregnancy.

Gender? Still hoping she comes out a girl! 😉

Labor signs? I’ve had a couple of Braxton Hicks contractions, but not too bad.

What I miss? I’m currently missing being able to move as easily as I used to. I miss not being sweaty over nothing as well. Oh and sushi….I want a spicy tuna roll SO BAD!

What I’m looking forward to? Besides seeing her for the first time, I’m excited for our couple’s shower tomorrow! I’m also excited to be done with work for a bit.

I cannot believe we are in the final weeks of pregnancy! It seems like we just announced it to the world and now we’re putting the final touches on her nursery. Which I cannot wait to show you guys! Speaking of that, I think I’ll go work on finishing her quilt!

First-Time Breastfeeding Mom Wish List

I have always known that when Mr. B and I had kids that I would do my best to breastfeed them. There are just so many benefits to breastfeeding! Some of the ones that really stuck out to me as a benefit are it helps with mine and the baby’s health, the skin-to-skin contact helps with bonding, and of course the savings with not having to buy formula.

Lately, I have been reading up a lot on breastfeeding and it got me to thinking of what types of things I would need to make this process as best as I can for our little family. As many first-time moms, I worry that the process won’t be something that comes naturally, how will Mr. B feel about not getting to hold her as much since she’ll be relying on me for feedings, and the whole breastfeeding in public issue that you hear about lately.

Reading the different books and articles on the Medela website have really helped with some of those fears and I’ve learned things I didn’t even think about.

I have learned more about pumping as well and plan on doing that when I have to leave Baby B for an extended period of time or to give Mr. B the chance to feed and bond with her. After browsing the Medela website, I came up with a list of things I believe would make the pumping experience a more easy one.

Well, these are sort of given since I’ll (and Mr. B) need a way to feed Baby B the milk I pump. 😉 These are also nice because you can pump right into them and store it for later. I like how it’s all universal with the Medela pump system.

Another tool that Medela offers that I’ll be using is their My Medela App. I recently downloaded it on my phone and know it will be handy for when Baby B makes her entrance into the world. On the app you can track when you last breastfed, pumped, and even the times you changed the baby’s diaper. All important things to know to help you breastfeed along the way. There are even some great articles to read, as well as a place to answer any troubleshooting problems you may be having.

I know this isn’t a total list of all the things I may need throughout our breastfeeding journey, but I feel it could be a great start!

I’m Certified!

Sometime either during the majority of my weight loss journey or shortly after, I decided I wanted to become a personal trainer. It was a dream that sat in the back of my head, but didn’t get much further than that. I would talk about the dream with others, never acting upon it.

I would peruse the multiple sites you could earn a certification from, comparing everything, adding up the costs, and even got super close to making the purchase. Then my anxiety would build up and I’d be back at square one.

It went on this way for a couple of years.

Then last May, I went to a paranormal/psychic expo where I heard a talk from a couple of ladies who talked about listening to your intuition and signs from the universe. I left that expo with that in the back of my head and just a few days later when getting SUPER anxious about making the leap, a dime appeared from the Universe.

I made the purchase, received the material, and hit the books pretty hard. Then I got to the Essentials of Exercise Science book, which was HARD! I tried to stick with it, but it just got too overwhelming for me and I stopped. I would come back to it every few weeks, only to discover it wasn’t getting any more easy to understand.

Soon it was the beginning of the year and my exam was a few months away. I did my best to get back to studying and would do good for a few days, only to become occupied with other things. Before I knew it, it was March and it was just a few weeks before my exam.

I knew I wasn’t prepared and rescheduled it for a fee. I wanted to choose a new date that was after Baby B’s birth, but I could only go out a few months. So, I picked the very last day that I could.

I got back to studying off and on until the end of April/beginning of May where I began to really bust my butt with studying. I struggled through the Essentials of Exercise Science book, but I did it. After getting through that, the rest of it was pretty much a breeze.

In what felt like a blink of an eye, I was only a few days out from the test. I really busted by butt learning all that I could with staying up late the night before the test and was up early the morning of going back through what I knew was a week spot for me.

Last Wednesday, I made my way to Iowa City for the exam. After trying to figure out parking, (why is this ALWAYS so difficult?) I made my way to the center, and tried my best not to freak out.

I sat down at the computer and began the exam. Thankfully it wasn’t as hard as I originally made it out to be and took my time with each question. And loved that I had the ability to flag questions to come back to that I was really having trouble with.

Things I didn’t love, the VERY fidgety girl sitting within my eye sight. :p

After working through the all 150 questions, I said a lil prayer, and submitted my exam. I was then told immediately that I PASSED!

I did my best to hold my composure in the exam room, got my print out, and dashed out of the building to my car where I had a little dance party. I called Mr. B to tell him the good news and sat in the parking garage in shock for a bit.

Then I made my way to the hospital where I got to visit my adorable niece!

I’m really pumped to finally be an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and my plan is to bring online services to my readers. I don’t know exactly what that will look like yet, but I’m excited to share it with you and further work on my dream of becoming my own version of Jillian Michaels.
