Three Years After Shape

I love the app Timehop. It helps me remember some pretty incredible and often times silly things that have happened in the past. Something that pops up around this time in the whole Shape bikini story.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about….

Read this and come back.

…..I’ll wait.

I cannot believe it all went down 3 years ago. I can remember sitting in the airport on my way to Mr. B’s cousin’s wedding and writing down my thoughts. I had NO clue what would happen when I hit ‘publish.’

I had no idea that it would go viral on the internet and I would have people from all over the world contacting me for interviews, praising me, relating to my story, and even the critics sharing their opinions. I was oblivious to the fact that life would be a crazy whirlwind for the next few days.

I’m so happy it turned out the way it did of course because it did start a conversation about body image in the media. It also opened the doors to some incredible women sharing their stories in a magazine that may have never gotten to be told. And when I see untouched bodies in magazines, I can’t help but think that I got to play a part in that.

It’s a pretty cool feeling to know that I got to be a voice in something that means a lot to a lot of people.

And 3 years later, I’m still doing my best to remember that.

Things have changed since it all happened. Obviously I became a mom, but this blog has also changed. I feel like I haven’t been my authentic self as much because I worry that someone might point out a “flaw” or that I’m not always the woman shouting from the rooftops that I love my body. (Yes, there are days we’re not BFFs)

I’m also not the woman who is chasing the ideal weight by living life “not on a diet.” I’m ready to break-free from that and make the shift on here that has been happening in my real life.

I want to share with you my messy mom life, my new normal, and things that make me feel whole. I want to share overall wellness with you guys, start my health coaching practice, and create a space for women who seek these things.

I don’t have it all figured out just yet, but I’m getting closer.

Tell me, how have you changed in 3 years?

What types of things would you like to see happen with the blog?

5 Books to Improve Your Life

I’m a person who is likes knowledge and learning ways to improve areas of my life. Most of this learning comes in the form of books. I feel like ever since I got my Kindle Paperwhite a couple of year ago for my birthday, I read a ton more. It makes reading in bed a lot more easier as I can do it one-handed and don’t need a light on to read.

Which has upped my reading of self-help books. I figured I would share some of the ones I have enjoyed in the last year or so and some that I have on my to-read list. Because, I’m sure if you’re a reader of my blog, you enjoy learning ways to improve your life as well.

Books I’ve enjoyed

You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero

This book is one that I really want to re-read again and takes more notes on. I really enjoyed it the first read through, but feel I didn’t dedicate enough time to take it all in. It is great for those of us who doubt ourselves A LOT (me!!) and need some things to work though to help us achieve the things we really want and deserve.

The Soul Searcher’s Handbook: A Modern Girl’s Guide to the New Age World by Emma Mildon

I will say that this book is a little more woo-woo than most may be comfortable with. But, I love the woo-woo. 😉 I’m a crystal wearing, essential oil using, law of attraction believing soul. This book though applies it to the modern world and breaks it down into the why and the how. I really learned a ton from this book to apply to my daily life.

Hands Free Mama by Rachel Macy Stafford

Admit it, you spend entirely too much time on your phone. We all do it to pass the time or to put off a task that we are really needing to accomplish. This book really gives you some great strategies on how to decrease not only the time spent on your phone, but also tips on saying “no” to the things that really don’t add value to your life and can take you away from your family.

The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod

I read this book ages ago and have only very recently started to apply some of the ideas to my life. I think now that I’m a mom, I need some of these tools to help me get more accomplished in a day. Hal suggests that you wake up before the house every morning and complete 6 steps to have a great day. Like I said, I haven’t applied all of them to my life, but I have picked the ones that work best for me. They really do set me up for a great day.

You Have 4 Minutes to Change Your Life by Rebekah Borucki

This book is fresh on the market and is so good if you are new to meditation. I’ve dabbled in meditation off and on, but have never really stuck to a dedicated practice. As part of my miracle morning steps, I have been incorporating more meditation and have found it super beneficial. This book explains all aspects of meditation, gives you insight into Rebekah’s story, and simple 4 minute meditations you can do depending on what is going on in your life.

Springing Into Action

Do you know that most people have already given up on their New Year’s resolutions?

Have you?

I didn’t really set any this year because I usually forget by now what I even set. So, I figured I wouldn’t bother and just set little goals throughout the year to keep me motivated and moving forward.

Sometimes I (we) need encouragement to keep chasing those goals, so I set up a couple of games to help with that!

First up, I’m hosting a StepBet! I hosted one last fall and had fun with it.

Basically, they give you a goal to reach for based on your step data. You have an active goal to hit 4 days and a stretch goal to hit 2 days. Hit the goals each week and you will win money!

If you’re more focused on your weight loss goals, then you might be interested in the DietBet I’m also hosting! Join, lose 4% of your starting weight and win money!

I will also be giving away Amazon gift cards each week for those who enter!

Join StepBet

Join DietBet

So, come join either bet or BOTH! I’ll be participating in both bets and posting other great goodies like recipes, tips, and encouragement along the way.
