Read/Watch/Listen/Follow August 2015

Usually I do my weigh-in posts today, but decided a whole post wasn’t needed. If you want to know how that went, stalk my Facebook or Instagram. I’ll be sharing on there today!

Read/Watch/Listen/Follow August 2015 by Brooke: Not On a Diet

I listen to a podcast (mentioned below) and they do a fun segment every month where they talk about what the are reading, watching, listening to, and who they are following. I always love hearing what others are doing to get ideas for my own lists. I figured why not a version on this as well and maybe even get few suggestions from you guys!

Read

Books To Read

Dark Places by Gillian Flynn– I bought all of Gillian Flynn’s books for a really good deal on Amazon awhile ago. I devoured Gone Girl and then forgot about the other two. When we went camping for my birthday in July, I picked back up and read Sharp Objects. Shortly after that I just went into Dark Places. All 3 are great and Dark Places totally blew my mind at the end. That Gillian is one twisted lady!

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes– I just finished this book on Sunday and I loved it. It’s an easy read and was great to pick up after Dark Places. It’s part love story and part a woman finding herself. I’m excited to read more after the sequel After You comes out at the end of September.

The Lake by Stephan Gray– Steve is a fellow Fitblogger and has recently decided to pursue writing. He debuted his first short story An End a month ago and The Lake recently hit Amazon. The Lake is a super quick read (about 10 pages) and was heartbreaking, yet beautiful. Oh and it is only $.99 for you Kindle. Can’t beat that!

Watch

Mind of a Chef

Mind of a Chef– We love us a great cooking show here in the Not On a Diet household. This one is part travel/part cooking which is pretty awesome. We just finished up season 3 which was really interesting and now has us wanting to travel to Sweden.

Listen

Listen To This

Around the Table Podcast– This is the podcast I mentioned above where I grabbed this idea from. Jacey and Maggie get together a couple of time during the week and just chat. I love their friendship and feel like we could be great friends.

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats– These are the guys we saw in a barn a couple of weeks ago. Mr. B and I cannot get enough of S.O.B. They performed it on The Tonight Show last week and got a standing ovation. Their album isn’t out YET, but the songs they have released thus far are all good.

I’ve been reading a lot lately, but none of the books that were on your list. I lean more toward chick-lit, rather than dark, moody books. I reread “To Kill a Mockingbird” before I read the “new” Harper Lee book, “Go Set a Watchman”. I thought “Mockingbird” was as good as I remembered, but “Watchman” wasn’t nearly as good – it was OK, but not great. I also read Jen Lancaster’s new novel – I love all her stuff, but especially her memoirs. I downloaded Jennifer Weiner’s new book, “Who Do You Love” yesterday when it came out, and I’ve already read about a quarter of it!

    • Go Set a Watchman is on my to read list. To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite books, so I’m interested to see how it is compared to it.

Also, I’ve heard great things about Jen Lancaster. I’ll have to check her out!

  • Reading “The Husband’s Secret” right now. So far good but I just don’t have enough time! Need more hours in the day. Have “Dark Places” on the Kindle. I think that will be next.

    • I’m currently reading The Husband’s Secret too! It is a little confusing to me to keep all the characters straight, but I’m getting better at it!
