If you haven’t seen it yet, THE Shape magazine is out there.
It has KILLED me not to share things with you guys over the last few months, but understandably they wanted us to keep it on the DL until it all came together.
I got word from Dacia on Saturday that she heard it was out and then I got a comment on my Instagram from a follower saying she had read the article.
I hadn’t seen it ANYWHERE yet! There were no advanced copies like when I was in Woman’s Day.
Thankfully we live in a world of great technology now and I downloaded it on my iPad.
I instantly started shaking. I couldn’t believe that everything had finally come full circle. I impatiently waited for the issues to download while texting Dacia who was out trying to find it on newsstands.
Then it was there. And the tears started.
So crazy to think that everything that happened back in May would lead to a media whirlwind, which then led to meeting 5 amazing women in New York back in October.
There’s Francelina from the Biggest Loser, Jo Ann our moderator, Heather who has lost 115lbs, my good friend Dacia, and Ashley from Choose the Change. The six of us combined have lost over 800 pounds! We spent the morning getting all fancied up with some great hair/makeup/wardrobe people.
They sat us down at a table with Jo Ann who moderated the discussion (she did her thesis on the effects of a massive weight loss) and talked about all sorts of things from the loose skin to dating life. Things we are proud we can do now, things we didn’t think would ever be possible, and everything in between. They gave us about 90 minutes to talk, but we really could have talked for hours upon hours.
To sit with others who have lost large amounts of weight and could understand things I deal with was kind of surreal. I loved hearing everyone’s stories and felt so inspired in some way by each and every one of them. I think we all left a bit stronger and better that day.
After our round table, we had our photos taken and had a lot of fun laughing and playing model. I’m glad they didn’t ask us to do too much moving around though! The heels I was wearing were killer and I can barely stand on flat feet let alone heels. 😉
As we all ate lunch and talked about how great everything with the round table discussion was, the photographers then got everything set up for another photoshoot. Mine….in my bikini. (!!!) I changed out of my clothes and into my bikini. The nerves set it, as I couldn’t believe this was actually happening.
I was treated like a model. Hair & make up touch ups, asking if I needed a robe between shots, and the photographer saying things like “oh that’s a good one” and “try this pose”. Completely surreal.
Then it was time to pack it all up to enjoy an AMAZING dinner at a Middle Eastern restaurant with Dacia and her friend, Kelly(who sells cute things over on Etsy!).
The night ended with Dacia and I drinking beer (of course) and chatting the night away. Perfect.
There are not enough words to express how amazing the entire experience was. Like I said before, I had NO idea that everything would come to this. I’m so glad it did though, our stories are meant to be told because there are bits in your story, my story, everyone’s that someone out there can relate to. Telling our stories can inspire others or just help them not feel alone.
At the moment I’m sitting in the airport, I’m on my way to New York. I’m going to be on the TODAY Show tomorrow (Tuesday Jan. 6th) morning. The lovely Bahar and I will be talking about the Shape spread and how by me sharing my story turned to others sharing their stories. Which I hope turns into many more of you sharing your stories.
Don’t ever be afraid to share your story, you never know who may be listening.
Again, thank you all for your support through all of this. It means the world to me! <3
