Introducing: Meatless March!

Brooke: Not On A Diet & Fit & Free w/ Emily's Meatless March Challenge

I have been toying with the idea of going meatless (even possibly vegan) for at least 30 days after watching one too many documentaries. (Seriously, I LOVE documentaries on Netflix!) Well, Emily over at Fit and Free Emily must have been inside my head ;) because she sent me an email asking if I wanted to do a challenge with her involving going meatless for a month.

Uh…yes! Love me a good challenge! And the oppurtunity to host it with another awesome blogger, even better! After a few emails back and forth and a dinner date last weekend, we are excited to bring you Meatless March!

Brooke: Not On A Diet & Fit & Free w/ Emily's Meatless March Challenge!

Spend 31 Days Meat-Free (find your niche)

The point of the challenge is to spend the month of March being meat-free. Which can me interpreted many ways! There are several types of vegetarianism and you need to decided what works best for you! Maybe you still want to eat eggs, can’t live without cheese, or have to have your fish. Find what you think you can do to last the month.

I’ll probably still do cheese, yogurt, and possibly eggs. But I will challenge myself to not indulge in those things every day. And I will be trying vegan versions of some of these things too. It’s all about learning new things!

Be Open-Minded (read & research)

Like I just said, this challenge is about learning new things. I have been reading all sorts of books and watching many documentaries in preparation for this challenge. It’s amazing how going vegan or just meatless can do all sorts of great things for yourself.

Here are some great books I read and documentaries I watched:

Books:

The 30 Day Vegan Challenge by Colleen Patrick-Goud
The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone
Skinny Bitch Book of Vegan Swaps by Kim Barnouin

Movies:

Vegucated
Food Inc.

I, of course am all pumped up about this challenge. I love being able to try new things, learn new things, all while having fun while I do it! Mr. B will be playing along too, but he is not as thrilled. He may have even told me that he plans on ‘cheating’ when eating lunch out at work. I may or may not have threatened him. ;) But, I will let him talk about his thoughts on Meatless March in his own words.

Mr. B’s Thoughts on Meatless March:

I have always been a MEAT and potatoes kind of guy. A perfectly charred marked filet cooked medium rare is always my first thought of what I want my last meal in life to be. So with that being said, meat is a big part of my life and diet, its delicious.

But on the other side of that, I did say meat and POTATOES. I have never had problems eating my veggies. I think many of them are vey tasty except rare tomatoes. Not eating meat for a month is going to be tough but I am ready for the challenge. RIP BACON

Alright, now that I’ve got my blog back, I just want to say that I hope you join us. No there isn’t any official prize to win if you complete the 31 days, just the awesome satisfaction of knowing you tried something new! Challenge yourself and learn a thing or two along the way!

Be sure to check out what Emily and her hubby have to say about the challenge! Then join our Facebook group and get ready for March!!

Have you tried a vegetarian lifestyle before? Are you willing to try it for 31 days?

I totally agree with your statement about the documentaries on Netflicks. I watch them too! I have toyed with the idea of going meatless but I’m not sure if that would be a healthy choice for me. I will definitely do my research on the subject and possibly consult a doctor before starting such a different diet option.

I think my husband would divorce me if I suggested we do that! I am rooting for you Brooke – if anyone can do it, you can! I will be interested in what you eat though!
