A morning person?

First off, I’m over on Kenz’s site today talking about shopping insecurities! Go check it out! Thanks Kenz for letting me crash the place! :)

Since starting first shift, working out has pretty much been non-exsistent except for a few times after work and on the weekends. This obviously wasn’t going to cut it. So, my only option was to get up earlier in the day and workout.

Say what? I’m gonna have to get up EARLIER to get sweaty?

Yeah…didn’t sound like much fun to me.

Well after putting it off for the longest time, I got up early today! I set my alarm for 6am, but ended up getting up at 5:45 because I was afraid I’d sleep through my alarm.

I slept in my workout clothes to cut out an extra step even! And I prepared everything for work last night. Oh, and I even made sure that my workout DVD was in the Xbox so I wouldn’t have to worry about that either. So by 10:30 last night I was all ready to go for today!

I got up outta bed, fixed my ponytail  and made my way downstairs. Turned on the Xbox and rocked out some yoga!

This is a posed picture after my workout, B-Fry is NOT a morning person! :)

It feels great to be done with my workout already today! I think I’ll even try it again tomorrow!

Are you a morning workout person? What are some of your tips?

I HATE getting out of bed in the morning. I live for my 3-day weekends (I started taking Fridays off two years ago–getting ready for FULL retirement in the next couple of years), and I sleep in every chance I get.
It is sure getting dark earlier at night, and in the morning, it isn’t light out until after 7:30, which is when I have to be at work, so no chance of getting in my walk BEFORE work either. The time change is coming, though and that will really screw me around–no way will I be able to get my walk in after work and BEFORE dark!
I got a new pair of earrings for my anniversary last month. They are hoops, rather than posts, so they don’t stick me when I lay on my side in bed. I just leave them in overnight–they’re GOOD earrings, so they’re not gonna infect my ears or anything, and that saves me some time in the morning. Gotta do what you can to get those extra Z’s!
You are a motivated girl to get out of bed early and go exercise. NOT FUN! But so worth it. I can’t wait for your post that says: “I’m in ONE-derland!” It’s coming soon–I just know it!

I workout twice a day 5 days a week these days. My lifestyle changes took me from 280 to 200 in ~6-8 months. Since then – I’ve stayed at 200-210, fluctuating with the season (is it Halloween with tons of candy?). In that time I’ve learned a couple of things:
    1) Sleep is the most important tool in weight loss.
    2) Proper nutrition is a very close #2
    3) Exercise is nice, and will help, but not going to help you lose weight the way most people think it will.
So – my morning workouts are a combination of lifting/running. My night workouts are usually me swimming into oblivion. To keep myself going I’ve come to the realization that I wouldn’t be able to do this without a pure unadulterated passion for what I’m doing. My lifting, running, swimming, biking, snowboarding, and whatever else it is that I’m doing is entirely based on the fact that I love it – and I’m driving to be better and stronger than ever. In where we’re trying to go – the greatest part of it all has to be the journey – not the destination.

I am NOT a morning person. Though I have gotten up early on the weekend a few times to run and you’re right. You feel energized and ready for the day. Well, I do. I should be going to work early 3 times a week to do strength training, but I’ve had so much insomnia lately that getting up early just doesn’t happen. I need to stop procrastinating and just do it!

Good for you! Like B-Fry, I am NOT a morning person. A few years ago, I used to work out every day before work. I used to be so proud of myself, but then I moved and started a new job with a longer commute – excuses, excused. You’re right, if I work out in the mornings before work I feel so much better for the rest of the day. I just need to get back into the routine of going to the gym before work.

Morning workouts are tough! I have tried many many many times but I would rather sleep in. I think if you are going to workout in the morning you have to have everything set up just like you did – so great job! I use my lunch hour to get in a workout and I am lucky that at work we have a very small gym with some free weights.

I go to the YMCA for mat-based Pilates 3 days a week 6AM – 7AM ONLY because I meet my friend Sylvia. I love her to death but sometimes I want to smack her because she is a MORNING person and disgustingly cheerful. Seriously, I would never do it without her but it makes me feel great. Good luck!

I always used to be a morning exerciser, but for some reason lately I just can’t get my butt out of bed. I used to get up at 4:30 and now 6:30 or 7 is a struggle…I need to get back to it. It’s hard to fit it in any other time.

I don’t think you have to be a morning person. I think you just have to be the type of person that says “This is what I have to do, so I’m going to do it”. You don’t have to like it, you don’t have to think it’s fun, you don’t have to be smiley and chipper about it, but if you just remember how you feel KNOWING you did it, keep that in mind each time make that appointment with yourself.

As you know I have a killer commute and not much time for my exercise, so believe me, I fit it in wherever I can. When I was running (and I will be again soon!) I would often go in the morning simply because running doesn’t require me to THINK it just requires me to DO. Afterwards I felt so accomplished, so STRONG, so amazing – really set me up for a great day.

I never used to be a morning person, but I’ve gotten used to it – and like it! It’s “ME” time. :D
