Goals, Goals, Goals!

Isn’t it funny how a weight loss blogger will go into a hiding when the weight loss isn’t going so well?

Ya, I’ve been one of those bloggers.

I’ve been struggling. Badly. I can’t seem to get back on this train and keep riding. I know that I mentioned in this post that I was “just going to do it.” And I did do it…

….for one week.

Then this last week I didn’t workout, I didn’t track, I didn’t do what I know what to do.

I’m just getting really irritated with myself. Irritated that I’m not losing weight and irritated that I’ve let myself put some of this weight back on.

And instead of continuing to be irritated with myself, I’m going to do something about it. The other night at work I decided to set some goals for myself.

There are 3 goals and each one has a reward. I do better with goals and rewards. I would like to meet these goals by my 26th birthday on July 24th. Which is exactly 6 weeks away. I know that the goals I’ve set are very maintainable if I do what I need to do. This means no more half-assing it.

So my goals are:

1) Bike 100 miles
2) Be under 200lbs
3) Workout at least 3 times a week

My rewards are as follows:

1) Bike 100 miles- Copy of Roni’s cookbook
2) Get under 200lbs- Subscription to a wedding magazine :)
3) Workout 3 times a week- $10 every week to a ‘Fun Fund’

So there we have it, goals and rewards. I will be sure to update my progress to all my fantastic readers! :)

Oh and my starting weight…..

213.8lbs. Ew.

Time to rock it out!!

Hey, don’t worry about it. Everyone hits a point where we slip. It’s not important that it happened, but it’s what you do moving forward. Keep it up!

Oh I totally know where you are coming from! I have been stuck for several weeks.I even just posted a blog about it. It is funny how we hide when things are going poorly. I get tired of saying how bad I am doing! However, yo did one thing better than me, and you set goals. I have goals too, but your rewards are awesome! I think I am going to use that idea as well. I have rewards for reaching specific weights, but what you are doing is so much better! You have no idea how much this has actually motivated me :)

Please throw yucky things at me me if I’m wrong, but I’ve noticed this seems to happen every time you hit the under 200lbs mark. I wonder if it’s some kind of subconscious block, like maybe you’re scared to go further because you’ve already come far, and going further is scarier? I get that way with writing. Like, I finally finished the first draft of Sade On the Wall, right, then couldn’t get myself to keep going and read through it with a red pen in hand. When I finally forced myself to do that, I couldn’t bring myself to start actually rewriting it and producing a second draft. I still can’t. It’s not because I don’t want to. I do. I’ve decided it’s because it scares the shit out of me, because then I’ll be one step closer to sending it off to an agent.

I know that writing a book and losing weight are so not the same thing, but sometimes the mind is tricky and stops us from doing good things that scare us — even if we really, really want those things. So, if I’m way off and coming off as an asshole, I really don’t mean to be one. I hope this helps in some way because I love you and I’m rooting for you, whether you’re under 200lbs or not!

Also, like someone else said, you don’t have to hide from us! No one is going to hate you or be mad at you if you’re having a hard time staying on your goals. (And if they do, they’re not worth letting them get to you, because they’re not really being supportive anyway!) Everyone has a hard time, even with the seemingly simplest of goals. We’re all rooting for you!

Good for you. It’s awesome that you know what appeals to you and do it. I’ve struggled since getting home from fitbloggin. Finally feel this week like I’m back in my groove.
    Good luck!!!

Way to go for setting those goals and going for them. I need to go back and look at my goals and maybe readjust them. You have given me the push to do that. Thanks!

I think the closer we get to our goals, the harder it is. Maybe, at least in my life, it has to do with the fear that reaching my goal won’t be enough, or won’t make me happy. But then, I’m neurotic.
I LOVE that you set three goals and rewards for attaining each. You have a great head on your shoulders – you WILL do it!

I love these goals!!! One of mine is to be a better reader of your blog. Its true though I noticed my slipping and my life go hand in hand. You got this! As do I.

    Hi Brooke,

I work for the company that produces Mutual of Omaha’s “Aha Moment” campaign; visit http://www.mutualofomaha.com/aha to see what an aha moment is and the incredible stories we’ve filmed over the last two years. As I came across your website, I couldn’t help but think that you might have an aha moment to share.

We’re taking our 34-foot Airstream mobile film studio to 25 cities to capture inspirational, life-changing aha moments from folks all over the country. We are headed to Davenport, IA on August 4th and 5th, and would love to invite you to share an aha moment! You would just have to step into the Airstream studio for a few minutes and tell your story on film to our tour manager. Your video will then be posted to http://www.mutualofomaha.com/aha, where you will be able to share it with your friends and family via email, Facebook and Twitter!

For the second year in a row, our tour manager is Jessica Henry. Hailing from Athens, GA, Jessica is an outdoor enthusiast and self-proclaimed “foodie” who enjoys talking about powerful life moments with people just like you all over the country. You can read Jessica’s bio (and meet the rest of the crew) at http://www.ahamoment.com/tour/about

We will be parked at Putnam Museum at 1717 West 12th Street, on August 4th and 5th from 11am to 7pm.

Let me know as soon as possible and I can reserve some time for you.

    Many thanks!
